COBA RUINS |
Coba is 45 minutes drive time inland from Tulum.
Coba is a huge site, one of the largest in all the Maya world.
Today, less than 5% of the site has been excavated. |
There are three main groupings of structures separated by tree-covered trails.
One section contains a couple of small pyramids |
A second section features only stelae, carved stones five to six high,
inscribed with ancient dates and tales. Walking the trail through the stelae
is quiet and peaceful, with an eerie feeling that one is not alone in jungle. |
The third section has one of the tallest pyramids in Mexico.
crawl to the top provides a 360º view of the surrounding jungle. |
