Ek Balam is halfway between Cancun and Chichen-Itza on the two-lane road
heading toward Temozon and Tizimin. If you are staying on the coast,
Ek Balam is slightly less than 3 hours from Playa del Carmen

Ek Balam is one of the most intriguing sites I have ever visited
because of stone-carving work that I have never seen at other sites.
Once at the site, you should allow 2 hours to fully explore

Except for workers – the site has working archaeologists on site –
you most likely will be the o nly tourists there. Despite the extraordinary details,
tourists just do not venture out here. There is a small admission paid in pesos.
